The Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has begun monitoring the quality of service associated with the provision of Broadband internet services by Operators to the public, from the newly established Unit at the TRCSL premises. This new Unit is equipped with apparatus to observe a wide variety of broadband services that includes ADSL, WiMAX and HSPA.

The main purpose of this Unit is to keep under surveillance the quality of broadband services encountered by subscribers in the country. To get an accurate picture about the overall broadband QOS, appropriate tests will be carried out in various parts of the Island where broadband is available.

The local and international segments will be monitored separately to gauge the available speeds. The broadband service providers have recently setup a mechanism in their networks to enable these tests to be conducted accurately, pursuant to the request made by the TRCSL. This mechanism allows TRCSL to keep under observation an Operator’s access network and to obtain certain data that are useful in QOS monitoring.
This Unit was established under the direction of Director - General TRCSL, Mr.Anusha Palpita and the technical assistance of NBCC.
