Priyantha
Kariyapperuma, Director General,
Telecommunications
Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL)
visited International Telecommunication Union
(ITU) in
Geneva
recently. He met Dr Hamadoun I. Toure, Secretary
General of ITU
to extend an invitation from H.E. the President
Mahinda Rajapaksa to visit
Sri Lanka
and to obtain regulatory and technical assistance
for the launch of
Sri Lanka
’s first Communication Satellite.
Sri
Lanka is one of the pioneer
members of the ITU and share a long
relationship. ITU has been providing advanced
training for many years. According to the Director
of the Telecommunications
Standardization Bureau, ITU is planning to
hold a Seminar on Next Generation Networks (NGN)
in
Sri Lanka
early next year.
