The
Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka do
hereby give notice to the general public that we have
requested Sri Lanka Telecom to temporarily stop the
International Direct Dialing (IDD) Facility for 3months,
commencing from 01st November 2005 – 31st
January 2006 to the following countries:-
Solomon’s
Island, Vanuata, Cook Islands, Wallis, Funtana Islands, Papua
New Guinea, Nauru, Tuvalu, Tokelau, Western Samoa, Kiribati,
Niue Estonia. This
is done to protect the public from frauds related to Premium
Rate Services known as Modem Hijacking and Internet Dumping.
You
are also advised to block the International Direct Dialing
(IDD) facility with the secret code when you are using e-mail
facilities or surfing the Internet.
There
have been a considerable number of complaints by consumers
regarding high amounts in their telephone bills as charges for
the use of International Direct Dialing (IDD) facility.
The
Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, regret
very much the inconvenience caused to the consumers of SLT for
temporarily stopping International Direct Dialing (IDD)
facilities to the countries mentioned above.
This is done in the best interest of the public.
We
have also advised SLT that the operator assisted facility
during this period should function well to the satisfaction of
their consumers who will need assistance to call people in
those countries.
