Renewal of the Licence of Sri Lanka Telecom PLC

 

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (“the Commission”) was set up as the independent regulator under the Telecommunications (Amendment) Act No. 27 of 1996, and was is responsible for regulating telecommunications sector in Sri Lanka including managing the radiofrequency spectrum.

Sri Lanka Telecom PLC has applied for the renewal of its Operator licence granted by the Minister in August 1991 under Section 17 (2) of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Act, No. 25 of 1991 (“the Act”) as amended to operate a telecommunications system to provide Fixed Telecommunication Services in Sri Lanka.

The Commission is satisfied that Sri Lanka Telecom PLC has fulfilled the requirements set out in the Guidelines and Procedures for issuing, renewal and modification of licences under the Act, published in Gazette No. 1435/20 dated 10.03.2006.

Therefore, the public is hereby noticed under Section 17 (3) (a) of the Act that the Commission proposes to recommend to His Excellency the President the grant of a licence to Sri Lanka Telecom PLC for a period of ten years.

The public is hereby further noticed that representations or objections to the grant of licence to Sri Lanka Telecom PLC may be made not later than 22.09.2012. The representations and objections should be in writing and addressed to Director General, Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka.

Renewal of the Licence of Dialog Axiata PLC

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (“the Commission”) was established as the independent regulator under the Telecommunications (Amendment) Act No. 27 of 1996, and is responsible for regulating the telecommunications sector in Sri Lanka including managing the radio frequency spectrum.

Dialog Axiata PLC has applied for the renewal of its Operator licence granted by the Minister on 01.11.2001 under Section 17 (2) of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Act, No. 25 of 1991 as amended (“the Act”) to operate a telecommunications system to provide non- facility based Internet services in Sri Lanka.

The Commission is satisfied that Dialog Axiata PLC has met the requirements set out in the Guidelines and Procedures for issuance, renewal and modification of licences under the Act, published in the Government Gazette No. 1435/20 dated 10.03.2006.

The public is hereby notified under Section 17 (3) (a) of the Act, that the Commission proposes to recommend to His Excellency the President the grant of a licence to Dialog Axiata PLC for a period of five years commencing with effect from 01 .11. 2011.

Any member of the public wishing to make any representations or objections to the grant of a licence to Dialog Axiata PLC may do so in writing in a letter addressed to the Director – General, Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka on or before the 20.01.2012.

Renewal of the Licence of Eureka Technology Partners (Pvt) Ltd.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (“the Commission”) was established as the independent regulator under the Telecommunications (Amendment) Act No. 27 of 1996, and is responsible for regulating the telecommunications sector in Sri Lanka including managing the radio frequency spectrum.

Eureka Technology Partners (Pvt) Ltd.has applied for the renewal of its Operator licence granted by the Minister on 16.08.1996 under Section 17 (2) of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Act, No. 25 of 1991 as amended (“the Act”) to operate a telecommunications system to provide non- facility based Internet services in Sri Lanka.

The Commission is satisfied that Eureka Technology Partners (Pvt) Ltd. has met the requirements set out in the Guidelines and Procedures for issuance, renewal and modification of licences under the Act, published in the Government Gazette No. 1435/20 dated 10.03.2006.

The public is hereby notified under Section 17 (3) (a) of the Act, that the Commission proposes to recommend to His Excellency the President the grant of a licence to Eureka Technology Partners (Pvt) Ltd. for a period of five years commencing with effect from 16 .08. 2011.

The public is hereby further notified that any representations or objections to the grant of a licence to Eureka Technology Partners (Pvt) Ltd. could be made not later than 16th January 2012. Such representations and objections should be in writing and addressed to the Director – General, Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka Commission of Sri Lanka.

Modification of Licence granted to Dialog Axiata PLC

 

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (“the Commission”) was set up as the independent regulator under the Telecommunications (Amendment) Act No. 27 of 1996, and was is responsible for regulating telecommunications sector in Sri Lanka including managing the radiofrequency spectrum.

 

The Minister granted a licence under Section 17 (2) of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Act, No. 25 of 1991 (“the Act”) to Dialog Axiata PLC on 28.09.1993 to operate a telecommunications system as specified in the Dialog Axiata PLC’s licence.

 

The Commission, in accordance with the authority conferred upon it under Section 18(1) of the Act, proposes to make a modification to the licence granted to Dialog Axiata PLC. The effect of the modification is that Dialog Axiata PLC will be required to share the information on lost or stolen mobile phones among other mobile Operators to ensure the lost or stolen mobile phones cannot be logged onto all the mobile networks.

 

The public is hereby noticed under Section 18(2) of the Act that the Commission proposes to recommend to His Excellency the President the licence modification of Dialog Axiata PLC.

 

The public is hereby further noticed that representations or objections to the proposed licence modification could be made not later than 10 .01. 2012. The representations and objections should be in writing and addressed to Director General, Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka.

Modification of Licence granted to Etisalat Lanka (Pvt) Ltd

 

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (“the Commission”) was set up as the independent regulator under the Telecommunications (Amendment) Act No. 27 of 1996, and was is responsible for regulating telecommunications sector in Sri Lanka including managing the radiofrequency spectrum.

 

The Minister granted a licence under Section 17 (2) of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Act, No. 25 of 1991 (“the Act”) to Etisalat Lanka(Pvt)Ltd on 17.02.2006 to operate a telecommunications system as specified in the Etisalat Lanka(Pvt)Ltd.’s licence.

 

The Commission, in accordance with the authority conferred upon it under Section 18(1) of the Act, proposes to make a modification to the licence granted to Etisalat Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. The effect of the modification is to permit the request of Operator to provide mobile Internet service in highly populated areas such as in hotels, shopping complexes etc. using Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) technology that would significantly improve the Quality of Service as a result of reducing the network congestion.

 

The public is hereby noticed under Section 18(2) of the Act that the Commission proposes to recommend to His Excellency the President the licence modification of Etisalat Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.

 

The public is hereby further noticed that representations or objections to the proposed licence modification could be made not later than 10 .01. 2012. The representations and objections should be in writing and addressed to Director General, Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (“the Commission”) was set up as the independent regulator under the Telecommunications (Amendment) Act No. 27 of 1996, and was is responsible for regulating telecommunications sector in Sri Lanka including managing the radiofrequency spectrum.

 

The Minister granted a licence under Section 17 (2) of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Act, No. 25 of 1991 (“the Act”) to Hutchison Telecommunications Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd on 11.02.1992 to operate a telecommunications system as specified in the Hutchison Telecommunications Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd.’s licence.

 

The Commission, in accordance with the authority conferred upon it under Section 18(1) of the Act, proposes to make a modification to the licence granted to Hutchison Telecommunications Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd. The effect of the modification is that Hutchison Telecommunications Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd will be required to share the information on lost or stolen mobile phones among other mobile Operators to ensure the lost or stolen mobile phones cannot be logged onto all the mobile networks.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (“the Commission”) was set up as the independent regulator under the Telecommunications (Amendment) Act No. 27 of 1996, and was is responsible for regulating telecommunications sector in Sri Lanka including managing the radiofrequency spectrum.

 

The Minister granted a licence under Section 17 (2) of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Act, No. 25 of 1991 (“the Act”) to Mobitel(Pvt)Ltd on 11.02.1993 to operate a telecommunications system as specified in the Mobitel(Pvt)Ltd’s licence.

 

The Commission, in accordance with the authority conferred upon it under Section 18(1) of the Act, proposes to make a modification to the licence granted to Mobitel(Pvt)Ltd. Lanka Communication Services (Pvt) Ltd has applied for the renewal of its Operator licence granted by the Minister on 04.07.1991 under Section 17 (2) of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Act, No. 25 of 1991 (“the Act”) to operate a telecommunications system to provide Data Communication Service in Sri Lanka.

The Commission is satisfied that Lanka Communication Services (Pvt) Ltd has fulfilled the requirements set out in the Guidelines and Procedures for issuing, renewal and modification of licences under the Act, published in Gazette No. 1435/20 dated 10.03.2006.

 

Therefore, the public is hereby noticed under Section 17 (3) (a) of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Act, No 25 of 1991 that the Commission proposes to recommend to His Excellency the President the grant of a licence to Lanka Communication Services (Pvt) Ltd for a period of ten years with effect from 04 .07. 2011.

 

The public is hereby further noticed that representations or objections to the grant of licence to Lanka Communication Services (Pvt) Ltd could be made not later than 10 .01. 2012. PUBLIC NOTICE

Tritel Services Private Limited has applied for the renewal of its Operator license granted by the Minister on 21.9.2005 under Section 17 (2) of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Act, No. 25 of 1991 (“the Act”) to operate a telecommunications system to provide public payphone services and prepaid card calling services in Sri Lanka.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (“the Commission”) is satisfied that Tritel Services Private Limited has fulfilled the requirements set out in the Guidelines and Procedures for issuing, renewal and modification of licenses under the Act, published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 1435/20 dated 10/03/2006.

Therefore, the public is hereby noticed under section 17 (3) (a) of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Act, No 25 of 1991 that the Commission proposes to recommend to His Excellency the President the grant of a licence to Tritel Services Private Limited for a further period of five years with effect from 22.9.2010.

The public is hereby further noticed to make any representations or objections to the Commission within thirty (30) days from the date of publication of this notice on the proposed grant of license to Tritel Services Private Limited for a further period of five years to continue to operate its telecommunications system.
