In line with the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Act, No. 25 of 1991 (as amended), the R&D initiative serves as a key platform that bridges academia and industry, promoting collaborative research to address emerging technological challenges and develop practical solutions for the future of telecommunications.

The event featured ongoing research projects from the University of Moratuwa, the University of Kelaniya, and the University of Ruhuna, covering innovative areas such as:

  • Spatial sound recording and reproduction for personalized speech intelligibility enhancement in noise
  • IoT-based sleep monitoring tools for independent living support
  • Machine learning-enabled network optimization to minimize atmospheric ducting interference in LTE-TDD networks
  • Innovative software solutions to enhance educational engagement and independence for visually impaired school children

The session brought together researchers, university lecturers, TRCSL Research Committee members, and industry representatives, encouraging productive discussions on research progress and opportunities for collaboration. Interactive Q&A sessions following each presentation facilitated valuable knowledge sharing between academia, industry, and regulatory experts.

Through the R&D Program, TRCSL continues to support and promote research-driven innovation, contributing to the technological progress and sustainable growth of Sri Lanka’s telecommunication sector.
