The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) successfully organized another Girls in ICT Day program this year at the Uva National College of Education, Bandarawela on 15th July 2025. This initiative aligns with the global Girls in ICT Day led by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
Celebrated annually in April, Girls in ICT Day promotes the involvement of girls and young women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). These discussions emphasized the importance of ICT education in empowering young women and creating future opportunities.
Around 350 participants, including pre-service teachers and staff from the Uva National College of Education, received valuable insights on opportunities, challenges, and the role of women in ICT and STEM sectors.
By highlighting successful female role models, addressing misconceptions, and providing practical guidance, the program aimed to encourage greater female participation in ICT education and careers. TRCSL continues to support initiatives that promote gender equality, foster digital inclusion, and empower young women to actively contribute to technological innovation and the development of Sri Lanka’s digital economy.
