H E President Mahinda Rajapakse declared open the 8th Annual Forum of the CTO

H E President Mahinda Rajapakse declared open the 8th Annual Forum of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) at the Ballroom, Hotel Hilton, Colombo on Sept. 13 morning, amidst a distinguished gathering comprising ICT Ministers, senior government officials, regulatory agency heads, international ICT experts, and other representatives from the telecommunication sector of a broad range of Commonwealth countries.

Hosted by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL), and organised in conjunction with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the three-day conference is based on the theme “Towards Digital Commonwealth: Broadband connectivity for all”. The Conference is exploring concrete ways to raise awareness of the full potential of the Internet, broadband and other information and communication technologies in developing countries.

Professor G.L. Peiris, Minister of External Affairs, Hon. Jeevan Kumaratunga, Minister of Post & Telecommunications, Mr. Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary to the President and Chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL), Mr. Malcolm Johnson, Director of the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau, ITU, Mr. Patrick Mwesigwa, Chairman, CTO, Dr. Ekwow Spio – Garbrah, Chief Executive Officer, CTO, Mr. Asoka Jayasekera, Secretary, Ministry of Post & Telecommunications, Mr. Anusha Palpita, Director –General, (TRCSL), were among the dignitaries present on this occasion.

Following the Conference, the 50th Council Meeting of the CTO, hosted by Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL), will be held at the Ceylon Continental Hotel, Colombo from September 16-17.
