The ‘NIA-APT World Friends Korea IT Volunteer Program 2024’ was organized in partnership with the National Information Society Agency (NIA) of the Republic of Korea, the Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT), the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) and the Uva Provincial Department of Education.
This program offered a valuable IT training experience for teachers and students in the Uva Province, incorporating both online and onsite training sessions conducted by Korean IT volunteers. The online training sessions were held from 8th to 19th July 2024, followed by onsite training conducted from 23rd July to 2nd August 2024 at B/Bogahakumbura Maha Vidyalaya, Welimada with the assistance of the Uva Provincial Department of Education.
Since 2011, the TRCSL in collaboration with the National Information Society Agency (NIA) of the Republic of Korea, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and the Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT) has coordinated and facilitated the deployment of over 100 international IT volunteers to both public and private institutions across the country. The International IT Volunteer Program continues to be recognized as one of the key capacity building initiatives undertaken by the TRCSL to enhance ICT education for students and teachers in rural and underserved regions, including those with special educational needs.
